Making Kin at the End of the World
Access Gallery invites artists to submit their work for Making Kin at the End of the World, our 2026 Members’ Show, taking place from October 12 to November 8, 2026.
This year marks a new chapter for Access Gallery’s annual Members’ Show. For the first time, the exhibition will be presented as a juried and curated group exhibition, with selected artworks brought together through a selection process. Unlike previous years, where all submitted works were included, this year’s exhibition will highlight a selection of artists whose practices engage with the theme and contribute to a collective conversation.
Selected artists will have their work featured in an exhibition at Access Gallery, connecting their practices with our artist community, gallery visitors, and the broader public.
We welcome submissions across all mediums and artistic practices responding to the theme:
Making Kin at the End of the World
In a time shaped by technological upheaval, climate change, political oppression, displacement, and mass extinction, how do we reconnect and form relationships beyond difference? How might we imagine new forms of kinship—with one another, our communities, and the more-than-human world?
Meet the Jury
Khim Mata Hipol
Filipino-born Khim Mata Hipol (B. 1999, Bauang, La Union, PH; lives and works in Vancouver, BC) is an emerging interdisciplinary artist based on the unceded territories of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, and Musqueam Nations. Working primarily through photography, he examines how identity is shaped and manipulated through commercialization, tracing human presence within landscapes to question nationalism, belonging, and the colonial histories embedded in everyday environments. His work often focuses on subtle gestures—objects, symbols, and interventions—that reveal how people inscribe meaning onto place.
Hipol holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Photography and a minor in Art and Text (2023), as well as a Certificate of Photography (2019), from Emily Carr University of Art + Design. He is a recipient of the BC Arts Council Individual Arts Award (2025), the Audain Travel Award (2022), and the Chick Rice Award for Excellence in Photography (2023). His work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Trout Museum of Art (Wisconsin), Griffin Museum of Photography (Massachusetts), Filter Photo (Chicago), and Exposure Photography Festival (Calgary). His works are held in collections in Canada, the United States, Germany, and the Philippines.
Michelle Msami
Michelle Msami is a Canada-based visual artist born and raised in Botswana. She attended the University of the Fraser Valley, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Visual Arts. She has explored and experimented with painting, photography, and sculpture, evolving to be a multidisciplinary artist whose main medium of expression is painting. These media have assisted her in her creative practice by helping her conceive ideas, integrate them, and learn from them. She has shown her works in galleries and art centers in British Columbia, Canada.
Ophelia Yingqiu Zhao
Ophelia Yingqiu Zhao is a writer and curator from Beijing, China, currently living and working on the ancestral lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and səlil̓wətaʔɬ peoples.
Her research explores the sentience of objects, and delves into the material existence of objects through poetry and speculative fictions. She is also a painter of still life, inquiring into the stillness of objects and their pre-commodity states of being. Zhao holds a MA degree in Critical and Curatorial Studies (2023), and a BFA degree in Visual Arts (2020) from the University of British Columbia.

Submission Details
- One (1) artwork accepted per artist
- $25 CAD to enter, including one-year membership to Access gallery. Current members up until August 1, 2026 can apply for free. Selected participants will be responsible for transporting the work to/from Access Gallery.
- Payment Page: $25CAD to our square page.
- Submission fees are non-refundable. Only artists selected will be exhibited.
Please note that we are unable to provide individual feedback on submissions. All applicants will be notified of the results in early September.
